This article shows how to borrow a license with the CimLM Licensing system.
Note: This is only currently possible in the following versions and the subsequent releases: 3DXpert 23.2.5, 3D Sprint 3.0.
Borrowed licenses are temporary licenses borrowed by a user. These temporary licenses are valid for between 7 and 28 days depending on the server monitor setting. Beyond that window, the borrowed license is automatically returned. Only floating (Network) licenses may be borrowed. If the software is installed on the server PC, then that install will not be able to borrow the license. Borrowed licenses cannot be returned by removing the user from the Server Utility. The server service cannot be restarted while a license is borrowed.
These are the requirements to borrow a license:
- The server must be running v10.5+ of the License Server Manager. See also: Checking Current Software Version
- License borrowing must be enabled in
C:\Program Files\Oqton\License Server\CimService Monitor.exe on the server PC. (Make sure to press Save Configuration after enabling)

- The client PC must be connected to the server PC.
- Borrowing cannot be done with the server PC as the client.
- The client PC must be connected to the internet. Specifically, it must be able to access these URLs:
- There must be seats available for the desired product.
- The main client application must be closed.
- Client user must be Authorized.
- By default all users are authorized.
- Undesired users can be blocked by clicking on Authorized Users and unchecking their name.

If those requirements are met, then the client can borrow the license by following these steps:
1) Launch the License Manager.
2) Close the software application (leaving just the License Manager open).
3) Click the Arrow to borrow the desired license.

4) The borrowed license will now show as a local node locked license that will expire.
5) Press the Return Arrow If the license needs to be returned before the expiration date. Note that the software should be closed before initiating the return. Internet access is required for this step as well.
